Born in the late 19th century, Tiffany lamps are recognized instantly by their lead-soldered colored glass shades. Every piece assembles hundreds of tinted fragments using the traditional stained glass technique, creating plays of light that shift through the day. Whether the motifs are floral, geometric or animal, the visual result is inimitable and never goes out of fashion.
These iconic fixtures are named after Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), the American artist and designer and son of the jeweler Charles Lewis Tiffany. In 1885 he founded the Tiffany Glass Company in New York, then from 1893 developed his first stained glass shades thanks to his patented iridescent "Favrile" glass. Shown at the 1900 Paris World's Fair, his creations earned him international recognition and made him one of the leading figures of the Art Nouveau movement.
The choice depends above all on use and available space. A table Tiffany lamp is perfect for a desk or an entryway console, while a floor model dresses a living room or a bedroom. In our Tiffany lamp store, models are grouped by format and by style, which makes it easier to choose based on the height you have and the colors already present in the room. Also think about bulb wattage to dial in the intensity of the light.
While table models remain the most common, wall-mounted or ceiling-fixed versions let you bring this style into tighter spaces. Tiffany wall sconces are an elegant alternative for hallways, staircases or bedrooms where floor space is limited. Combining several Tiffany lamps in a single room creates a coherent, welcoming atmosphere without overloading the decor.
Tinted glass and the network of lead solder lines call for gentle but regular care. A slightly damp cloth is enough to clean the shade without risking damage to the joints. Avoid abrasive products or chemical cleaners, which can dull the brilliance of the glass. The metal base, often in patinated bronze or brass, is cleaned the same way to keep its original look for as long as possible.
